Data we collect and how we use it

We collect and use personal data to make Marker work, improve it over time, and to offer support services.

Data we collect:

How we use your information:

We use your information in order to provide the service to you, and because we have a legitimate interest in keeping Marker reliable and secure, maintaining and improving our products and services, and supporting our users effectively.

Who do you share my data with?

Business partners, suppliers, and subcontractors (who are based in the UK, EU, or USA) for the purposes of supplying our products and services, and for the performance of the contract we enter into with them or you. We only share personal data with these providers where it's used to run Marker or deliver related services, and we limit what we share to what's relevant for that purpose:

Regulators / Authorities / Enforcement Agencies if we are under a duty to disclose or share your personal data in order to comply with any legal obligation; or to enforce or apply our terms of use and other agreements; or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our customers or others. This includes exchanging information with other companies and organisations for the purposes of fraud protection.

Buyers of our business (prospective and actual) we may share your personal information to support a sale or restructuring of our business as we have a legitimate interest to ensure our business can be continued by the buyer. If you object to our use of your personal information in this way, the buyer of our business may not be able to provide services to you.

Where do you store my data?

We store your data on third party servers which are based in the EU and/or in the USA.

When working with third parties we may need to transfer your personal data outside of the UK and/or EU (e.g. some features of Marker run on Cloudflare's global infrastructure, which means certain data may be processed in the region closest to where you access the service).

Whenever we transfer your personal information outside of the UK and the EU, we ensure it receives additional protection as required by law. To keep this notice as short and easy to understand as possible, we haven't set out the specific circumstances when each of these protection measures are used. You can contact us using the details above for more information on this.

How long do you keep my data for?

We will only retain your personal information for as long as we need it (e.g. to provide the services) unless we are required to keep it for longer to comply with our legal, accounting, or regulatory requirements.

In some circumstances we may carefully anonymise your personal data so that it can no longer be associated with you, and we may use this anonymised information indefinitely without notifying you. We use this anonymised information to improve the way we work and our services.

Cookies

We and our suppliers use cookies to collect information about how you use Marker, such as usage patterns and interactions with our services. This helps us understand what's working well, identify areas for improvement, and make Marker better over time. We do this because we have a legitimate interest in improving Marker and understanding how people use it.

Children

Marker is not (yet) intended for children and we do not knowingly collect data relating to children.

Artificial intelligence

Your writing is yours. We do not allow suppliers to train their AI models on your writing or personal data.
